Natural Hayfever Remedies

Red, yellow and orange vegetables and fruit are rich in beta carotene, bioflavonoids and vitamin C which can help hayfever. Organic is preferable as there will be higher vitamin levels and no pesticide residue. Dark green foods help eliminate the excess toxins in the body and also contain high levels of beta carotene. Add watercress, rocket and chard to your salads and use spinach, green beans and kale. Spirulina, blue-green algae, wheatgrass and chlorella are useful additions to your food choices. Other helpful nutrition includes sprouted seeds, garlic, yogurt, pollen and aloe vera.
The 12 biochemic tissue salts correspond to the principle inorganic materials found within the body. They are prepared homeopathically. New Era Tissue Salt Combination H for Hayfever and Allergic Rhinitis is a general biochemic remedy that is good for most symptoms. Ferr Phos (No 4) is good for congestion and headaches. Kali Mur (No 5) is good for thick catarrh and swollen glands. Kali Phos (No 6) can help with wheezing and is also useful for allergy induced fatigue. Nat Mur (No 11) can help with watery discharge, sneezing and watery eyes.
Flower Essences can help with the emotional symptoms of hayfever. Beech is the most important flower remedy for hayfever it is for intolerance both physical and emotional. It is important to note that the emotional intolerance may be repressed and not readily apparent. Beech is often combined with Holly for extreme allergic reaction. Crab Apple is used to aid the detox process, it helps to cleanse the blood. Holly is for fits of sneezing and feeling irritated, angry and resentful. And Impatiens is for those always in a rush, impatient, nervous, fidgety and itchy.

Hayfever is a seasonal form of allergic rhinitis caused by pollen. Symptoms include red, sore, itchy eyes, frequent sneezing, sinusitis and excess catarrh. These can leave the sufferer feeling tired, irritated and depressed. The hayfever season also seems to have gotten longer, with tree pollens around from February to May, then grass pollens throughout the summer. Then there is perennial rhinitis, which can be triggered by animal hair or feathers, dust, mould, fungus spores or pollution. For some, it is never ending.
There are changes you can make to ease the suffering. Cut down on mucous forming foods such as dairy products and wheat; lessen your intake of refined foods (white bread, white pasta and both white and brown sugar) replacing with wholegrain versions. Avoid those processed foods with additives you would not use yourself. Limit your alcohol intake as much as you can – or at the very least alternate each drink with a glass of water. Regular caffeine consumption makes it harder for the body to cope with stress and blocks the absorption of vital vitamins and minerals as well as depleting stores already in the body. Substituting herbal teas or drinking water is much more beneficial for your overall health.
As a nutritionist, I know that it’s not just what you eat that has an impact on how you feel—although it does play a big part—it’s also what you drink, what you think and what you do.
